Data becomes much more interesting when you can see how it changes.
ChartFactor’s NCHS Drug Poisoning Mortality by County application turns a large public health dataset into an interactive way to explore mortality rates across the United States.
A time slider allows users to replay changes over the years, while the map makes it possible to see how patterns vary from county to county. Users can also open a trend chart to compare individual county trends, or switch to a heat map highlighting the 20 counties with the highest mortality rates across a selected range of years.
The result is more than a static map or report. Users can move through time, compare locations, and investigate different perspectives on the same dataset through a single interactive experience.
Built using ChartFactor Studio with a custom look and feel, the application demonstrates how complex public data can become much easier to explore when visualisation and interaction work together.
